At our summer school in Saint-Raphaël, we believe that the key to motivating young teens (aged 13-17) to learn French lies in proficiency, communication, and student-centered learning. By creating a supportive environment where students are encouraged to speak as much as possible, they gain both confidence and fluency. Our approach combines classroom immersion, interactive practice, and real-life experiences on the French Riviera.
Proficiency first - The focus is on developing communication skills and practical ability, rather than drilling grammar rules.
Student-centered learning - Teachers take a step back so that students can take the lead. The less the teacher speaks, the more students gain confidence and fluency.
Active interaction - Pair work, group activities, and everyday situations — such as shopping, excursions, or conversations with host families — give students real opportunities to use French.
Creative tools - Songs, role play, and cultural activities keep learning fun and engaging, while expanding vocabulary and cultural understanding.
Immersion beyond class - Staying with host families and meeting local French teenagers ensures that practice continues after lessons, making French part of daily life.
Teaching: Two teachers share the morning sessions — one before and one after the coffee break. With support in grammar and intensive role plays, students are encouraged to speak as much as possible, developing their verbal skills through active practice.
Class size: Maximum 8 students per group
Student Accommodation
As part of our French summer courses, we strongly encourage students to stay with a French host family during their time in Saint-Raphaël. Accommodation is offered in either a single room or a double room with separate beds. Living with a host family is a central part of the experience: our families have been carefully selected over many years and provide students with an enriching insight into everyday French life, culture, manners, and customs. You will be welcomed as a full member of the household, while also respecting the family’s rules.
There is also the option of staying at the Youth Hostel. Rooms are shared, and both breakfast and dinner are included seven days a week, at the same price as accommodation with a host family. The hostel is also the venue for some of our French courses, making it a practical and lively environment to both live and learn.
